2013 / World Taiko Music Explosion Concert led by Hiro Hayashida, Oct. 18

 

World Taiko Music Explosion ConcertThe Taiko Center of Los Angeles will be presenting the “World Taiko Music Explosion” Concert featuring master taiko artist, Hiro Hayashida at Armstrong Theatre in Torrance on Friday, October 18 at 8 pm.

Tickets are $30 for general, $25 for seniors and students, $20 for a group of ten more.

The concert will be a fusion of Japanese taiko drumming and jazz and world music.  

Hiro Hayashida was a former member of the world-renown taiko group, Kodo for 8 years.  He also leads a professional taiko group, Zi-Pang in Japan.  Hayashida teaches taiko throughout Japan, southeast Asia and the United States. 

Recently he performed in France with a youth taiko group, Super Junior Taiko.  Hayashida is also a leading figure in performing the kasugi oke-daiko (shoulder-slung taiko) having designed oke-daiko models for Asano Daiko and Remo Drum Companies.

Internationally acclaimed artists at the Oct. 18 stage will include bassist and composer Alphonso Johnson, well known as a solo artist who has performed with jazz group, Weather Report and Santana;  Karen Briggs, virtuoso violinist who often tours with Yanni; Yukiko Matsuyama, koto artist who recorded on a Grammy-winning recording with Paul Winter; Diana Dentino, keyboardist formerly with Kitaro and tours with Peabo Bryson; and Fredo Ortiz, percussionist with the Beastie Boys. 

Also appearing in the concert will be the Taiko Center of Los Angeles directed by Rev. Tom Kurai.

The concert will be held at the James R. Armstrong Theatre, 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance, CA 90503.
