Phoenixâ€™s Japanese Garden to celebrates Childrenâ€™s Day with Kites and Koi Festival, Apr 3
ARIZONA — The Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix will host a Childrenâ€™s Day and Kite Festival on Saturday, April 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Margaret T. Hance Park. The festival is free.
In its sixth year, the Childrenâ€™s Day Festival will feature an anime-manga (Japanese animation and comics) drawing booth, hands-on origami paper folding art, calligraphy or stylized Japanese writing techniques, Japanese shiba inu dogs, storytelling, stage entertainment, and an aikido martial arts practice space.
Drama students from Goldwater High School will present Kabuki â€“ traditional Japanese theater on stage.
Kites will be flying all day. They can be brought from home, bought at the Festival and made on site. There will be Japanese food and drink for all to enjoy.
Joined by the Valley of the Sun Koi Club for the second year, more than thirty show quality koi will be on display with special childrenâ€™s activities featuring the colorful Japanese fish.
The Japanese Friendship Garden will also be open for regular visits as well.
The Garden is located at 1125 North Third Avenue (over Deck Park Tunnel).
