Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute and Cultural News present “Okinawa slide show and Okinawa travel plan by Okinawa guide book author Robert Walker” on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Nisei Veteran Hall of the GVJCI in Gardena. Admission free.
This is the second appearance of Robert Walker to Gardena JCI after his May 4 slide show about his new book Okinawa and Ryuku Island: The First Comprehensive Guide to the Entire Ryukyu Island Chain published by Tuttle Publishing.
Author Robert Walker who is Law Professor at University of Maryland – Asian Division in Okinawa, has spent twelve years to visit entire Ryuku Island Chain.
Illustrated with over 200 color photographs and 40 maps, Okinawa and the Ryukyu Islands is the first comprehensive guide to the 150 sub-tropical island chain that stretches across 600 miles from Japan to Taiwan. These are some of the most stunningly beautiful islands in the world.
On Aug. 9, Prof. Walker will discuss his new book in overall term of all the Ryukyus, and then focus on two possible trips to make: one to the islands to the north of Okinawa – specifically Amami, and two, to discuss in more detail the islands to the south, specifically Yaeyamas.
