World War II Nisei soldiers documentary to be air on KABC-TV, Nov 19, 20

KABC-TV, Los Angeles, will air David Ono’s special documentary on the famed ”Go For Broke” 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Battalion on Saturday, Nov 19, 9:30 pm and repeated on Sunday, Nov 20, 12 noon.

A partial showing was presented at the Go For Broke National Education Center Evening of Aloha Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony honoring the Japanese-American veterans of the 442/100 and Military Intelligence Service (MIS) in Los Angeles on Nov 4; this will be a full half hour presentation.

David Ono, news anchor of KABC-TV, traveled to Europe to interview people in France and Italy whose towns were liberated from the Nazis by the 100th/442nd. The accomplishments of the Nisei are still celebrated today, particularly in the French town of Bruyeres.

The documentary also covers the accomplishments of the Nisei linguist of the Military Intelligence Service in the Pacific, as well as the Tuskegee Airmen and the Navajo Code Talkers.

The Congressional Gold Medal has now been presented to segregated Japanese American, African American and Native American units of World War II.

Ono co-anchors ABC7 Eyewitness News at 4 and 6 pm. He joined ABC7 in 1996.
