Deputy Chief Terry Hara is selected as a recipient of the 15th Annual Local Heroes Awards by Union Bank and KCET public media television station.

The awards will be presented on Thursday, May 6 at the KCET studio in Los Angeles.

Terry S. Hara :  As deputy chief and commanding officer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Personnel and Training Bureau (PTB), Terry Hara is responsible for overseeing the training of police recruits and the administration of human resources for the department.

Deputy Chief Hara joined the LAPD in February 1980 after having been introduced to law enforcement as a Police Explorer Scout with the Long Beach Police Department.

In January 2008, he was promoted to Deputy Chief and Commanding Office West Bureau. He was the first Asian American to achieve this ranking.

Deputy Chief Hara is on the board of directors for the Los Angeles Police Historical Society, was a past president of the Nisei Week Foundation and the Japanese American Optimist Club of Los Angeles, and also serves as a board member for the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, the Japan America Society and the “Go For Broke” National Education Center.
