Los Angeles County Museum of Art presents a special lecture “Peace Through a Bowl of Tea” by Dr. Genshitsu Sen of Kyoto, Japan on Sunday, May 24, at 1 pm. This lecture is a part of public program in associated with the current exhibition “Raku: The Cosmos in a Tea bowl” at the Pavilion for Japanese Art.
Chado (the "Way of Tea") is the spirit that underlies a traditional form of Japanese culture, embodied as peace in a tea ceremony. Together the terms "harmony," "respect," “purity,” and "tranquility" also express that spirit. Dr. Genshitsu Sen, the 15th Grand Master of the Urasenke tea school, defines these key concepts and enlarges upon the peace instilled within a bowl of matcha tea.
A chado demonstration is a visual accompaniment to the lecture.
The lecture will be held at the Bing Theater. Free event, but tickets for this event are no longer available for reservation in advance. A standby line will form at noon on the day of the event.
