The Japan Foundation Los Angeles provides library services, Japanese language courses, lecture series, workshops, and Japanese film screening regularly.

The JFLA library has approximately 10,000 volumes of Japan-related print and audio-visual materials in its collection, including books on Japanese language, art, culture, literature, manga, history, Japanese magazines, and newspaper.

The Japan Foundation is funded by an endowment from the Japanese government, annual government subsidies, as well as private sector donations.

JF Nihongo Fall 2016

Sept. 10 – Nov. 15 (9 weeks)

Registration deadline: Sept. 2. Early bird 10% discount by Aug. 26.

The courses are designed for new Japanese-language learners as well as those who are interested in improving their existing language skills. Each course focuses on specific themes and learning goals, such as inviting friends or writing an e-mail. Each course is offered once a week for 9 weeks.

Workshop: Making Sushi in Japanese

Thursday, August 25, 7 pm – 9 pm

Participants will learn sushi-making from Chef Andy Matsuda of Sushi Chef Institute, and useful vocabulary and expressions from language instructors of the Japan Foundation.

Fee is $35 per person. 18 years and older. Menu will include: chirashi, hand-roll, and nigiri sushi.

Admission free. Reservation required.

Kageyama was a principal drummer of premiere ensemble Amanojaku in Japan. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Berklee College of Music and a Master of Arts from Longy School of Music of Bard College in New York.
