Koyasan Buddhist Temple, 342 East First Street in Little Tokyo, will hold New Year's ritual “Fire Rite” ceremony on Jan. 1, 2020 at 10:00 am.
The Koyasan Buddhist Temple is opened to the public from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, from January 1 through January 3. Public blessing services will be held every two-hour during the period.
On January 1, the temple will be open at 9:00 am.
Bishop Emeritus Taizen Miyata will officiate the ceremony and kick off three-day New Year’s celebration in the temple.
The Traditional Shingon Fire Ritual Service will begin with chanting mantras and beating of the drum with the goal of bringing joy, enlightenment, good health and peace of mind.
Ema (wish tablet), Omamori (amulet), Omikuji (fortunes), Hamaya (Lucky arrows) and consecrated Ofuda (talisman) will be available to purchase at the temple site. The year 2020 is the Year of the Mouse.
