Koyasan Buddhist Temple, 342 East First Street in Little Tokyo, will hold New Year’s Day Shusho-e Service in person with limited seating at 10:00 am on January 1, 2022.

The temple encourages those interested to come early to ensure their seats. Other blessings and services will follow on January  2, and 3.

Bishop Yuju Matsumoto, Head Minster of Koyasan Buddhist Temple, will officiate the ceremony and kick off three-day New Year’s celebration in the temple.

The Traditional Shingon Fire Ritual Service will begin with chanting mantras and beating of the drum with the goal of bringing joy, enlightenment, good health and peace of mind.

Jan. 1: 10:00 am - New Year’s Day Shu-Sho e Goma Service with mochi presentation. 11:30am -Taiko Gohei Blessing Service. 12:30am – Taiko Gohei Service. 2:00pm – New Year’s Day Goma Service. 3:30pm – Taiko Gohei Blessing Service

On Jan. 1, the doors to the mail hall will be closed promptly at 10:00am or earlier if the main hall is filled to the capacity.

Jan. 2: 10:00am – Goma Service. 11:30am – Taiko Gohei Blessing Service. 12:30pm – Taiko Gohei Blessing Service. 2:00pm – Goma Service. 3:30pm – Taiko Goehei Blessing Service.

Jan. 3: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm – Taiko Gohei Blessing Services.
