National medal ceremony takes place at Japanese American National Museum

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard of the 34th District, presents the National Medal for Library and Museum Service to Japanese American National Museum’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees Gordon Yamate and National Museum President & CEO Akemi Kikumura Yano at ceremonies at the Museum on January 28.

Congresswoman Roybal-Allard nominated Japanese American National Museum for the award, which was present to Kikumura Yano at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama on Dec 17, 2010.

The 2010 National Medal for Library and Museum were awarded to 10 recipient by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. It is the highest honor bestowed on a museum in the United States.
