
Madam Kao Khogetsu performs the creative Japanese dance at the New Year’s event of the Orange County Japanese American Association in Anaheim, Orange County in March 2024.
Madam Kao Khogetsu in Temecula area of Riverside County was granted her Natori, stage name and teaching credential, by Japanese dance school Khogetsu-ryu last year.
The Khogetsu-ryu was founded in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture in April 1966 by Jusen Kohgetsu and is currently known as the creative Japanese dance based on Hanayagi-ryu. 58 years after the foundation, the third head of the school, iemoto Sukeju Khogetsu leads the school.
The Khogetsu-ryu Jukakai association was organized by Madam Juka Kogetsu 20 years ago. Juka is mother of Kao.
Creative Japanese dance is a genre which dancers can perform in wide range of styles freely, and in addition to performing classical style dance, the creative Japanese dance takes in choreographies matching to popular songs, nursery rhymes, folk songs, etc., for aiming to provide entertainment that can be enjoyed by performers on stages and by the audiences.
Kao Khogetsu lives in California for 25 years. She started her lessons of the creative Japanese dance in California about 10 years ago.
Through the creative Japanese dance, Kao Khogetsu inherits the Japanese culture from her parent generation in Japan, and wishes to forward the Japanese culture to the next generations in California.
The creative Japanese dance brings fun of expressing emotions and thoughts on entertainment. Learning how to wear a kimono and dance helps students to lead a better, healthier, and happier lifestyle.
