Atsushi Uyehara, Firefighter Specialist (Engineer) with Los Angeles County Fire Department was on the Japan rescue mission from March 12 – 19.
10-year veteran firefighter Uyehara is certified for Search and Rescue and Hazardous Material treatment. His team was sent to Hurricane Katrina, Haiti Earthquake, China and New Zealand. The Japan rescue mission was the first out of country assignment for Uyehara.
Los Angeles County Fire Department team landed at Misawa Air Force base in Japan on March 12, and went to North Eastern coastal cities, Ofunato and Kamaishi in Iwate Prefecture. They came back home on March 19.
