The 19th Kyokushin Karate US Weight Category Championship will be held on February 2 at the Aratani Japan America Theatre in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles.
This annual weight-class national championship brings together competitors from more than seven countries across North America, Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.
The "kumite" (sparring) division is contested based on age, gender, and weight class, while the "kata" (forms) division is judged according to skill level, which is categorized by rank and age.
While this tournament serves as a gateway for up-and-coming American athletes, it also reflects the unique characteristic of Southern California, where many practitioners are in their 40s and 50s. As a result, the senior division (for competitors aged 40 and over) has become one of the key highlights of the event.
