Assistance League of Long Bacg 2011 President Cindy (Nakamura) Summers

Cindy (Nakamura) Summers was installed as the 71st president of Assistance League of Long Beach on May 23 at its annual meeting and luncheon with 260 members attending at The Grand in Long Beach.

Assistance League of Long Beach is the largest chapter of National Assistance League and is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) corporation comprised of more than 900 hands-on members. They provide more than 85,000 volunteer hours annually that enrich the lives of over 15,000 Long Beach residents every year.

The year 2011 goals of Assistance League of Long Beach are:  expanding Operation School Bell towards its goal of clothing 10,000 Long Beach Unified School District students a year; increasing awareness of Assistance League’s role in service to the Long Beach community; and building and strengthening the organization’s membership.

Cindy (Nakamura) Summers brings great enthusiasm and a wealth of experience to the presidency.  She has been 4th Vice President Finance, Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer.  She chaired Operation School Bell/Middle School and has served on numerous committees, including Grants, Investments, and Strategic Planning.

She has participated in ALa Carte, a bedside crafts program at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, and has been involved with the Presentation Ball.

One of her main interests has been working with Assisteens Auxiliary, which is comprised of more than 100 high school age members.

She has served as a mentor to Assisteens for the last six years and was chapter liaison to Assisteens in 2009-10.  Cindy was also chapter liaison to Las Hermanas Auxiliary in 2010-11.

Prior to joining Assistance League in 1999, Cindy was a banker in Portland, Oregon for twenty-three years, rising to senior vice president, operations.  Besides her involvement with Assistance League, she was PTA president at Hughes Middle School in Long Beach.  Cindy (Nakamura) Summers has a degree from Oregon State University.
