Little Tokyo Business Improvement District issues the community alert about the curfew via email on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 2:50AM, PDT.
The alert is the following:
Mayor Institutes Downtown L.A. Curfew
Raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents bent on rounding up and deporting undocumented workers have led to widespread protests in the Downtown Los Angeles area and put Little Tokyo in harm's way.
In addition to the demonstrators, Monday (June 9, 2025) night also saw groups roaming the Downtown area, tagging walls with graffiti, setting cars on fire, and looting into businesses.
Mayor Karen Bass imposed a limited curfew in the Downtown Los Angeles area from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. in an attempt to stem the vandalism and violence.
The temporary curfew covers the area from the 5 Freeway to the 110 Freeway and from the 10 Freeway to where the 5 Freeway and the 110 Freeway merge, over one square mile that began Tuesday (June 10, 2025) night at 8 p.m. until this morning at 6 a.m.
The (Los Angeles) Mayor said the curfew could last for several days. However, the curfew seems to be effective in reducing chaos for the time being.
Who’s exempt:
- Residents living within the curfew zone
- People experiencing homelessness
- Those commuting to/from work
- Credentialed media
- Public safety and emergency personnel
- Individuals traveling to/from medical care or fleeing danger
