A special program on “Japanese Argonauts on the Dominguez Rancho,” will be held on September 14, from 1 – 3 pm at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum, 18127 South Alameda Street, Rancho Dominguez, CA 90220.
This program is co-sponsored by the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute and the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. And the program is supported by UCLA’s Aratani Endowed Chair.
Speakers will cover the history of Issei immigrant pioneers, the World War II mass imprisonment in concentration camps, and the return and struggle to recover after the war.
Speakers include: Don Hata, Emeritus Professor of History, California State university Dominguez Hills, Lane Hirabayashi, Aratani Professor of the Japanese American Incarceration, Redress, and Community and professor of Asian American Study at UCLA, Tom Philo, Archivist/Cataloger for the Archives & Special Collection at CSUDH, and Eileen Reiko Yoshimura, Director of Financial Management for the Port of Los Angeles.
