Cultural News Launches Drive for 250 Supporting Subscribers to Sustain Free Access to Japanese Cultural Resources

For more than 25 years, Cultural News has served as a trusted source of information about Japanese culture, arts, heritage, and community life in Southern California, Arizona, and beyond.
Founded in 1998 as a monthly newspaper and transformed into a digital weekly publication in 2020, Cultural News has documented and promoted Japanese cultural events, traditions, educational programs, exhibitions, performances, and community activities. It has become an important bridge connecting people with the richness of Japanese culture.
Today, the Weekly Cultural News online newsletter, the Cultural News website, and the extensive cultural database at www.culturalnews.com remain completely free to the public. There is no paywall. Everyone has open access to these valuable cultural resources.
Behind this continuing effort is the passion and dedication of Cultural News Editor Shige Higashi, who has devoted himself to preserving and sharing information about Japanese culture for the benefit of the community. Cultural News has always been a labor of love. Maintaining and updating these resources, however, requires significant time and financial support. The annual operating cost is approximately $30,000.
To help sustain this mission, the Cultural News Association was established in 2019 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Cultural News and preserving public access to Japanese cultural information.
