Event Name: LA Youth at Work Job Skills Workshop

Date/Time: Saturday, 5/16 – 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Description: This Workshop will help you prepare a professional resume, which is a document used to present your background and skills to possible employers.  Bring a copy of your current resume and/or complete our Resume Template. The Workshop facilitator will help make that resume your best introduction to an employer. The Job Skills Workshop will also help you prepare for your job search by answering questions about: your resume, interview questions, employment applications, phone/e-mail and social networking etiquette, and searching for a job.

Event Name: Author Talk by Lora Nakamura (Asian Pacific Month Celebration)

Date/Time: Saturday, 5/23 – 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Description: Lora Nakamura, author/illustrator of The Bonsai Babes: A Love Story, will be giving an author talk on the theme of transformation at The Little Tokyo Library.  As a credentialed teacher and MSW, her writing speaks to the inner child in us and aims to break down the barriers that prevent us from realizing our true potential.   The talk will be geared to youth with old souls and adults with access to their inner child.  All ages are welcome, with a suggested age of 12 and older.

Event Name: Kpop Event by Dora Ho

Date/Time: Thursday, 5/21 – 4:00-5:30 pm

Description: K-pop can be defined as South Korean Popular Culture and Music.  It includes Korean music and drama.  During this program, Dora will share the history and background of K-pop and introduce to the audience, various idols groups and singers.  Famous K-pop singers including Psy, Super Junior, Girl Generations, BIG BANG, 2NE1, BEAST, A PINK, INFINITE, VIXX, CN BLUE, FT Island, etc .  We will also have a game of K-Pop trivia as well as listening to watching some of the latest MVs.

Event Name: Japanese Essay Writing by Nobuko Iinuma

Date/Time: Saturday, 5/23 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Description: Nobuko Iinuma teaches students how to write an essay in Japanese.  Ms. Iinuma is an established non-fiction writer who published 8 non-fiction books in Japanese that are mostly biographies of Japanese people who were active in the USA.

Event Name: Children's Storytimes

Date/Time: 5/6, 5/13, 5/20, 5/27 - 10:30-11:30 am

Description: Children, parents, and caregivers, join us for our preschool storytime filled with songs, fingerplays, and stories!  This program is intended for children ages 2-5 years old and is subject to cancellation without prior notice.

Description: Children, parents, and caregivers, please join us for our fun-filled Japanese storytime with our STAR volunteer readers! Geared for families and children of all ages!

Description: Practice your English conversational skills on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30 pm.

Description: Learn some basic Spanish from someone who is fluent in Spanish!

Description: Chill out with a hot film at the Little Tokyo Library every Friday from 2:00-4:00 pm.

Event Name: Friends of Little Tokyo Branch Quilters

Date/Time: Friday, 5/8, 5/22 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Description: The Friends of the Little Tokyo Branch Quilters meet on the second and fourth Friday of each month.  The beautiful quilts they make are auctioned off each summer to support the needs of the Little Tokyo Branch Library.  Sponsored by the Friends of Little Tokyo Branch Library. Description: Small group computer basics workshop.  How to set-up & use e-mail, social media, and search; how to download e-books; how to read magazines and newspapers using our databases.  Themes change depending on the needs of those taking the workshop. Instructions available in English or Japanese.

Description: These classes will concentrate on demonstrating MS-Word and MS-Excel.  Come learn the basics of these programs and how you can use them in your life.

Event Name: Origami for Teens & Young at Heart

Date/Time:  5/7 - 4:00-5:00 pm

Description: Join us for a workshop to make origami. Participants will learn about the history of this craft and then make their own origami creations! All supplies will be provided.

Date/Time: 5/16  - 1:30-3:30 pm

Description: Enjoy a discussion in Japanese about the books you've read together or share the latest articles that you've found interesting.
