Huntington Library to host family program of “Journey to Japan” with songs and taiko show, July 11

The Grateful Crane Ensemble and the Taiko Center of Los Angeles will present a kid-friendly morning of Japanese theater and music on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino.

Entitled a “Journey to Japan,” the hour-long performance will be held at the brand new Robert C. Ritchie Auditorium and will feature the telling of “Momotaro: The Peach Boy,” and “Tanabata,” along with the singing of a “Book Song” composed by Grateful Crane’s Musical Director Scott Nagatani.  Cast members include Haruye Ioka, Keiko Kawashima, Darrell Kunitomi, Kurt Kuniyoshi and Helen H. Ota.  This will be followed by a taiko presentation by the Rev. Tom Kurai and members of the Taiko Center of Los Angeles.

The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens is located at 1151 Oxford Road in San Marino. Tickets for “Journey to Japan” are $10 for Huntington Members and $20 for Non-Members.
