The 71st commemoration service for the victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings will be observed on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2:00 p.m., at Koyasan Buddhist Temple of Los Angeles, 342 East 1st Street in Little Tokyo.
The American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors (ASA) and Koyasan Buddhist Temple will co-sponsor the memorial service with prayers for world peace.
Bishop Junkun Imamura will conduct the service and Dr. Gloria R. Montebruno Saller of La Verne University will be a guest speaker. The event is open to the public.
Since the summer of 1989, the Koyasan Buddhist Temple has housed the Hiroshima Peace Flame Lantern and the priests have daily prayed for the victims. The flame was brought from the Hiroshima Peace Park in 1984 by one of the bomb survivors.
