Through dance, the UCLA’s NSU Odori group promotes Japanese American culture while breaking down stereotypes about Japanese American culture and traditions.

Under the guidance of Bando Hirohichiro (aka Nakamura Gankyo), this year NSU Odori is under the direction of Jaymie Takeshita and Jamie Yabuno, with Elizabeth Hiroyasu as the producer of “Hanabira no Kai.”

In Japanese, “Hanabira no Mai” means “Dance of Flower Petals,” and the NSU Odori hopes to show the beauty and grace of Japanese classical dance.

For the past three years, NSU Odori has worked hard to establish themselves as a performance group in the UCLA and Los Angeles community.

NSU Odori is also one of the first Japanese classical dance groups created on university campus in the U.S.
