Day to Calm the Heart in a Tranquil Temple Hall
Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin Temple invites the public to the Buddha Image Tracing (Shabutsu) and Sutra Tracing (Shakyo) event on Sunday, July 27, in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles.
The day begins with a Goma Fire Ritual at 1:30 p.m., held in the main hall of Koyasan Temple, where the air will be filled with the fragrant smoke of sacred fire, creating a deeply spiritual and purifying atmosphere.
Following the ritual, at 3:00 p.m., participants are invited to take part in Shabutsu (Image Tracing) and Shakyo (Sutra Tracing) in the peaceful and meditative temple setting.
These practices offer a chance to slow down, pick up a brush, and spend a mindful moment in quiet reflection—deepening your connection with the Buddha’s teachings.
For Shabutsu (Image Tracing), participants may choose from three sacred figures:
• Kōbō Daishi (Kūkai)
• Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana)
• Fudō Myōō (Acala)
Shakyo (Sutra Tracing) is available in three levels of difficulty, making it accessible to both beginners and seasoned practitioners.
Participation fee: $20 per sheet for members / $25 per sheet for non-members.
Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin (Koyasan Buddhist Temple) is located at: 342 E 1st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012
