PACOIMA, CA — The San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Center (SFVJACC) invites the community to its annual Day of Remembrance, an event dedicated to reflecting on the Japanese American incarceration experience during World War II. This year’s program will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sakaguchi Hall, SFVJACC, 12953 Branford Street, Pacoima, CA 91331.
The highlight of the event will be a screening of the acclaimed documentary “Baseball Behind Barbed Wire” at 2:00 PM. The film explores the role of baseball in the internment camps and its significance to those who endured this tragic chapter in American history. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with special community members and explore exhibits that shed light on this important legacy.
At 3:00 PM, the program will feature a special guest speaker, Dan Kwong, an award-winning performance artist, writer, director, and documentary video producer. Kwong, whose mother and family were incarcerated at Manzanar, has been actively involved in restoration projects at the historic site since 2008. In 2023, he began leading the restoration of the Manzanar baseball field and organized the inaugural doubleheader in 2024. Kwong will share insights from his “Manzanar Baseball Project” and discuss the ongoing efforts to preserve this vital piece of history.
