LITTLE TOKYO, Los Angeles — The Furuya Foundation and the Aikido Center of Los Angeles will present Dancing for the Dojo, a special fundraising event on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. door opening at the Pasadena Buddhist Temple, 1993 Glen Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103. Proceeds from the event will support the construction and preservation of the Aikido Center of Los Angeles’ new dojo in the heart of Little Tokyo.

The fundraiser comes at a historic moment for the Aikido Center, which recently signed a long-term lease at the newly developed Go For Broke Plaza & First Street North Residences, a mixed-use project planed by the Little Tokyo Service Center.

Founded in 1974 by Rev. Kensho Furuya, the Aikido Center of Los Angeles has spent more than five decades preserving and teaching traditional Japanese martial arts while maintaining deep ties to the Japanese American community.

“This is not just a new address. It is a homecoming for our dojo that was pushed out of Little Tokyo 20 years ago,” said Stan Sung, 2nd Dan and a leader of both the Aikido Center of Los Angeles and the Furuya Foundation. “We believe this will be the dojo’s permanent home, a fitting place to carry forward the work of our founder, Rev. Kensho Furuya, for generations to come.”

Located adjacent to the Go For Broke National Education Center, the new dojo will become part of the Japanese American’s cultural and historical center in Los Angeles. The Little Tokyo Service Center planed to bring back the legacy business that made Little Tokyo.

To transform the space into an authentic dojo facility, the Furuya Foundation has launched a capital campaign with a fundraising goal of $350,000.

The public is invited to attend Dancing for the Dojo, an evening of community, entertainment, and fundraising dedicated to preserving the legacy of traditional Aikido in Los Angeles.
