2014 / First Annual “Nagoya Day” set for Aug. 10 at The Grove shopping center

The First Annual “Nagoya Day” event will be presented on Sunday, August 10, from 11:40 am – 6 pm at the Park area in the Grove shopping center, 189 The Grove Drive, Los Angeles, CA, 90036. There is no admission fee and is open to the general public.

“Nagoya Day” is designed for commemorating the 55th Anniversary of Los Angeles and Nagoya’s sister city partnership by the Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation.

This event will be officiated by Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura and Los Angeles Councilman Tom LaBonge with Mr. David Ono (ABC7 Eyewitness News) as emcee. Ms. Harumi Ukai, Chairperson of the Nagoya City Assembly, will also be in attendance.
The First Annual “Nagoya Day” will feature fun for the whole family. There will be traditional cultural activities like Japanese origami, calligraphy, tea ceremony and kimono wearing throughout the day.

In addition, the strong Japanese taiko, precise movements of the samurai performance and elegant traditional Japanese dancers will sure to captivate the audience. Children can also take pictures with Nagoya samurai mascot Hachimaru or get his special Japanese uchiwa fan as a souvenir.

Adding more excitement and showcasing Nagoya’s contemporary face, there will be a cosplay contest with a chance to win a free ANA airplane ticket to Japan, and a mini concert by the Japanese pop singer Stephanie.

As The Grove shoppers are entertained by the traditional and modern elements of Nagoya, they can sample delectable Nagoya-meshi cuisine. Be sure to also enjoy some sushi courtesy of Mizkan and Japanese sweets courtesy of the City of Nagoya while stopping by the Lexus vehicle display and JR Tokai’s Shinkansen Bullet Train presentation.
