“Kogei-Kyoto at SA+C Boston: Contemporary Innovators in Japanese Arts and Crafts” exhibition will be held from Sept. 10 to Nov. 10, 2019 in Boston.

The Japan Society of Boston and the Artists Group Kogei-Kyoto will present this exhibition in conjunction of a city-wide celebration of Boston’s 60-year sister city relationship with Kyoto.

Nearly 30 artists from the crafts collective in Kyoto will contribute exquisite handmade items to their first American exhibition at the Society of Arts + Crafts’ (SA+C) Seaport galley, 100 Pier Four Blvd, Suite 200, Boston, MA 02210.

Comprising traditional pieces as well as new works made with traditional methods, this wide-ranging exhibition displays craft in multiple mediums including ceramics, textiles, metal- and wood-working, glass, lacquer, and fabric dyeing. Artists from New England will host demonstrations and lead Japanese culture workshops throughout the exhibition’s run.

As part of its non-profit mission to support craft artists, all of the works in the “Kogei-Kyoto at SA+C Boston: Contemporary Innovators in Japanese Arts and Crafts” exhibition will be available for purchase. In addition to the featured pieces, Kogei-Kyoto artists will bring other works to be offered for sale at the Society of Arts + Crafts’ on-site retail gallery.
