Washu-Kai announces the 44th annual Sumi-e Ten Japanese brush painting exhibition
The annual exhibition, which is free to the public, will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 23rd and 24th, 2019.
The exhibition will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 101, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, San Diego, California.
Visitors to the exhibition will see Japanese paintings in monochrome ink (suibokuga/sumi-e), paintings using both monochrome ink and color (bokusaiga/nihonga), and hanging scrolls (kakejiku).
Floral arrangements will be by the San Diego Ohara School of Ikebana and Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
On Saturday, November 23rd, at 1:15 p.m. Koto music will be performed by Masazumi Kai. Our popular wearable art fashion show will be at 1:30 p.m.
At 2:30 p.m. a special painting demonstration will be performed by, award winning, Washu-Kai member Naoko Ozaki. Naoko was born in Tokyo, Japan where she started her artistic career in calligraphy and sumi-e. She is currently enrolled in the Bifu Calligraphy Instructor Certification Program.
On Sunday, November 24th, at 1:30 p.m. a special painting demonstration will be performed by, award winning, Washu graduate student Wendy C. Nakamura (Kakushu).
The Washu-Kai Japanese Brush Painting Society was founded by our master sensei Kazuko (Suzy) Reynolds (Washu) (1920-2011).
