Nihon Buyo Kai, a nonprofit Japanese classical dance presenter, will host a virtual fundraiser by releasing videos of dances performed at the Fall 2023 Presentation in North High School, Torrance.
The dances will be presented in two parts:
Part 1 (November 16-30), featuring the dances Nagare, performed by dancers from Azuma Ryu), Kurokami and Katsuo Uri, both of which are performed by dancers from Bando Ryu.
Part 2 (December 1-15) will feature the dances Urashima, performed by a dancer from Sanjo Ryu, and Hourai, Onnatayu and Wakatake, all performed by dancers from Wakayagi Ryu.
Please visit http://www.nihonbuyokai.org to view the dances under the Upcoming Events tab.
Nihon Buyo Kai was established in 2012 by students of the late Madame Bando Mitsuhiro, and its board members advance her mission of introducing Japanese classical dance throughout the region and the United States.
In following its mission to present quality programs at a reasonable cost, the fundraiser is in a "donate what you wish" format; viewing is complimentary but is a "Make a Donation" tab on the page. Any amount is truly appreciated.
Funds raised through this virtual program will help to offset costs for Nihon Buyo Kai's in-person event and workshop, tentatively scheduled for late spring 2025. A guest artist from Japan will be invited to give a demonstration in an art critical to Japanese classical dance, and a separate workshop will also be presented in this art form.
