Yoichi Komiyama, the esteemed founder and chairman of the Los Angeles-based lifestyle information magazine "Lighthouse," passed away on Sept. 8, 2025 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center due to organ failure caused by lymphoma. He was 59 years old.

Born in 1965 in Kagawa Prefecture, Komiyama graduated from the National Institute of Technology (Kosen) Yuge College. During a one-year maritime training voyage on the training ships Nippon Maru and Taisei Maru in 1986, he was captivated by the blue skies and free-spirited culture of Los Angeles. This experience led him to move to the United States upon graduation.

After running a cram school, Komiyama founded the Japanese-language information magazine "Lighthouse" in 1989. Under his leadership, Lighthouse (TAKUYO CORPORATION) grew to have its headquarters in Torrance, California, with branches in San Diego and Seattle. The magazine became a trusted source of information for the Japanese community in the United States.

In 2016, Komiyama completed a master's program in business administration at the Graduate School of Business Breakthrough University. He also served as vice president of the Overseas Japanese Newspaper and Broadcasting Association.

Komiyama's wife, Hiromi, shared on Facebook, "He was blessed with wonderful friends and lived life to the fullest, running so hard that you could feel the vibrations when you were close. He passed away with a smile, fully satisfied. Thank you very much."

A Facebook page titled 込山洋一さんを偲ぶ会 (Remembering Yoichi Komiyama) was launched on Sept. 10 to honor his memory.

In September 2025 Issue of Lighthouse, the company announced that it had become a member of the Leverages Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, which operates globally in various businesses such as human resource introduction and dispatch, system engineering, and M&A. The merger announcement was already made public when Leverages Corporation posted https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000777.000010591.html on July 4, 2025.
