After an eight-year pause, one of JACCC’s most beloved New Year traditions returns: the 21st Annual New Year Shikishi Exhibition, on view January 10-24, 2026 at the George J. Doizaki Gallery. Presented alongside the 9th Annual Cultural Ikebana Exhibition, this year marks the joyful revival of a community ritual that has welcomed artists of all ages to share their hopes for the year ahead.
For generations, shikishi boards have carried the heartfelt wishes, blessings, and intentions of the New Year. Through bold calligraphy, delicate illustrations, and deeply personal messages, each piece offers a glimpse into someone’s dreams for the future. This long-awaited return invites all of us to reconnect with the spirit of renewal, reflection, and cultural artistry that makes this tradition so meaningful.
JACCC is a 7-minute walk from the L.A. Metro Rail's Little Tokyo/Arts District Station, which connects to both the A and E lines via the Regional Connector. Zenshuji Soto Mission is just a 5-minute walk from the same station.

This exhibition is supported in part by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) and the Henri & Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation.
