Shingon Buddhism 2026 | Koyasan Buddhist Temple to Hold Sacred Sutra Recitation with Goma Service and Japanese Dedication Dance in Little Tokyo, Sunday, October 25 at 1:30PM
Little Tokyo, Los Angeles — Los Angeles Koyasan Buddhist Temple will hold a special Daihannya Tendoku Goma Service & Dedication Dance on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and all are welcome.
During the service, the 600 volumes of the Daihannya Hannya Haramita-kyō (Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra) will be ritually recited through the traditional practice of tendoku, with prayers for the removal of misfortune and for blessings, merit, and wisdom.
More than 10 Shingon Buddhist priests from across North America will participate. Bishop Shunga Kiryu, Director of the International Affairs Bureau of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism in Koyasan, Japan, will serve as the officiant, and Bishop Yuei Goto, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Bureau of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism in Koyasan, Japan, will serve as the Goma priest.
Following the service, Ukon Takafuji, a Japanese traditional dancer based in Asakusa, Tokyo, will present a dedication dance.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m.
