As a living museum, Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach campus manages a valuable collection of Japanese black pines, maples and ginkos, considered to be the backbone of the garden’s design.

EMB Japanese Garden will hold the following program:

Pruning Workshop:
June 24     9 a.m.-noon

Admission: adults $5, seniors $4, members $3, children 12 & under free

Learn from experts on how to shape these majestic trees to feature in your own home garden. You may attend both sessions to learn varying techniques and cement your understanding through narrated one-hour demonstrations.

Attend the inaugral screening of the documentary video: The Care and Culture of Trees at EBMJG, featuring interviews with Garden Curator Dr. Vergil Hettick and Ueki Club members about their relationship with the Garden and the significance of artful pruning.

A panel discussion will follow with nationally recognized tree specialists, including Aesthetic Pruner Dennis Makishima and Certified Consulting Arborist Michael Mahoney about best tree management practices and their experiences as consultants on the recently completed Detailed Conservation Survey, an EBMJG project  funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The screening and panel are free but space is limited.
