Since 2000, Los Angeles’ kimono enthusiasts gather in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles on January 1 every year to promote kimono in Los Angeles.
LA Kimono Club, a name of this group now officially called, will conduct the 2013 Miss Kimono LA and Mr. Kimono LA Contest on Jan. 1, 2013 at a plaza of Weller Court shopping center in Little Tokyo in conjunction with Oshogatsu (New Year Day Celebration) in Little Tokyo event sponsored by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Southern California.
The winner of the 2013 Miss Kimono LA will be awarded furisode kimono and fukuro obi (both in $1000 value), tiara, a certificate of merit, and three years of LA Kimono Club membership.
The first runner-up will be received $100 cash prize, tiara, a certificate of merit, and three years of LA Kimono Club membership.
For Mr. Kimono LA Contest, the winner will be given $50 cash prize, one bottle of sake, a certificate of merit, and three years of LA Kimono Club membership.
To be eligible to enter, all contestants must sign in before Jan. 1, 2013, at 11 am at the contest booth on Onizuka Street. Pre-registration form is available on the LA Kimono Club website, www.lakimonoclub.com.
