Kado Koyasan is the art of flower arrangement that has been practiced for 1191 years since Kobo-Daishi Kukai, founder of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, dedicated a ceremony called Mando-Mangee at Koyasan (Mt. Koya) in 832. The hearts of those who join their palms together and the flowers arranged by their hands have been refined along with the various ceremonies handed down in Koyasan.
This flower arrangement as a part of Buddhist practice is called “Kado Koyasan”. Kobo-Daishi said, “We are only one part of the universe, and we all have equal lives, even animals and plants. We should respect each other’s life and make the best use of it. The essence of Koyasan flower arrangement is to make the best use of and appreciate the life of flowers”.
This event is free and open to the public.
