On Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Terasaki Budokan, a project of Little Tokyo Service Center, and artist and Kibō Nobori Founder Faith-Ann Kiwa Young, will host the 4th annual Kibō Nobori festival in celebration and honor of the Japanese national holiday Children’s Day (‘Kodomo No Hi’ in Japanese) as well as AANHPI Heritage Month.
Kibō Nobori, which translates as ‘hope flags’ in Japanese, seeks to spread hope within the Los Angeles community through art, activities, culture, and entertainment.
Free with registration, and fun for all ages, Kibō Nobori features art, performances from traditional Taiko drumming to hip hop dance, activities, raffle, and an AANHPI marketplace with retail and food vendors curated by Filled Market.
This year’s event’s Title Sponsor is the Angel City Football Club, and they will have a street team handing out swag and goodies. Kibō Nobori is in partnership with the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and Go Kizuna, which are hosting a Kodomo No Hi event in their Isamu Noguchi Plaza the same day; attendees are encouraged to explore Little Tokyo and experience both events.
Additionally, for the full month of May, Faith-Ann Young‘s colorful, large scale “Kibō Nobori” textile flag series, inspired by Japanese koi nobori traditionally hung on Children’s Day throughout Japan, will be on display in Terasaki Budokan’s plaza for all visitors to see and experience.
