Alhambra Performing Arts Center Saeko Kujiraoka Koto Concert

Alhambra Performing Arts Center presents award-winning Saeko Kujiraoka in concert with Koto performers and Japanese dancers at Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church,1850 West Hellman Avenue, Alhambra, CA 91803, on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m.

APAC Chef/Artistic Director Bill Yee will be providing free hot appetizers and beverages from his ACF chefs on a first-come first-serve basis.

The concert is free with RSVP or $25 donation during the intermission.

Saeko Kujiraoka began studying the Ikuta technique of Koto playing in Tokyo, Japan. She received an advanced degree in Koto, Sangen, and classical singing from the Michio Miyagi School of Koto in Japan.

In the US, she founded the "Koto Eda Group." She teaches private Koto lessons in the Los Angeles area and performs at the colleges, museums and various receptions. She is proactively involved in various collaborations.

She has formed Harp & Koto Duo "Harp & Koto Stories” with Miriam Suzuki, played with Grammy Award Winner Koto player Yukiko Matsuyama, "Japan America Chamber Ensemble," jazz & Bossa Nova groups etc.

She has been involved in movie sound track recordings including Kang Fu Panda, etc. Also, she has been involved album recording session for Luke Steele (Empire of the Sun) , M.I.A. etc.

Saeko reveals new perspectives on the sound of Koto through her arrangement of pop and jazz standard like songs of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Chick Corea. She will continue her performance activities so that many may enjoy her traditional Japanese instrument, Koto.
