Founded in 1965 in Los Angeles by the late Reverend Kanshu Ikuta and his wife Hiroko Ikuta, Beikoku Shodo Kenkyukai has been a vital force in preserving and promoting the art of Japanese calligraphy, shodō, across the United States and Japan.

For over 60 years, the organization has upheld the highest standards of this traditional art form, standards typically seen only in Japan, through local instruction, community engagement, and international cultural exchange.

To commemorate its 60th anniversary and honor the 100th anniversary of founder Reverend Kanshu Ikuta Sensei’s birth, Beikoku Shodo Kenkyukai presents this special U.S.–Japan joint shodō exhibition. The exhibition features a diverse range of works by master calligraphers and emerging artists, reflecting both deep tradition and dynamic creativity within the world of Japanese calligraphy.
