News Japanese Consul General Kosei Murota arrived at Los Angeles on Aug. 11. On Aug. 13, Consul General Murota appeared at a community celebration in Little Tokyo, and on Aug. 17, he joined the Ondo and Closing Ceremony of 2025 Nisei Week Japanese Festival.

In front of the Yagura tower, Nisei Week President Helen Ota introduced Consul General Murota, his wife Tsuako, and his son Yuki to the public.

Consul General Murora joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. This Los Angeles assignment is his second time working in the United States, having worked at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC from 2007 to 2010.

Before arriving in Los Angeles, he served as Senior Director at the Secretariat of the National Security Council. His service for the NSC totaled over nine years, during which he advised Prime Ministers Abe, Kishida and Ishiba.

In his free time, Consul General Murota loves soccer, and he is a fervent supporter of Japan's national soccer team's, both men's and women's.

The jurisdiction of Japanese Consul General in Los Angeles includes Southern California and Arizona.
