Torrance – The WWII Camp Wall and the City of Torrance are holding a fundraising event at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
A 7 p.m. concert, featuring the Hiroshima Trio of Dan Kuramoto, June Kuramoto and Kimo Cornwell will be held at the James Armstrong Theatre, followed by an After Party/Dance featuring the sounds of the live band, Kokoro in the Toyota Mee ng Hall.
The band, Hiroshima formed in 1974 and gained popularity with their smooth jazz/R&B sound selling over 4 million albums worldwide. They have since retired from touring, but the Trio is coming together to perform at this fundraiser.
The concert will be followed by a live auction on featuring such items as a stay at a chateau on a vineyard in Paso Robles, and a VIP stay at the Aulani Resort, a meet and greet, and an After Party/Dance.
The festivities will also include appetizers, a silent auction, and a dance to the live music of the band, Kokoro.
The WWII Camp Wall is the vision of the late Dr. Kanji Sahara. Dr. Sahara’s dream was to build a monument consisting of ten walls, one for each of the War Relocation Authority (WRA) camps during World War II.
Each of the camp walls will list the name of each person that was incarcerated at that camp. There will be an eleventh wall, listing the names of those held at Department of Justice (DOJ) and Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) camps.
This monument, designed by the architectural firm, Chee Sale e, will be built at Columbia Park in Torrance.
There is a $5 million state grant in place, and we are seeking to raise an additional $4.99 million to complete the project.
