Art of Manga | Araki Hirohiko
“Art of Manga” features original drawings by 10 groundbreaking manga artists who helped shape the evolution of the medium from the 1970s to today. As part of the exhibition, we’re highlighting the unique paths and styles that define each artist’s legacy.
Next in our series is Araki Hirohiko, creator of the iconic “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” Inspired by everything from Sherlock Holmes to Picasso to Michelangelo, he built an artistic universe that blends high fashion, Renaissance sculpture, music, and manga into something entirely his own. JoJo’s evolving cast, bold poses, and surreal color palettes have since become a cultural phenomenon, both in Japan and around the world.
With “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” soon to celebrate its 40th year, Araki continues to reshape what manga can be — visually, emotionally, and philosophically.

「マンガの芸術」展では、1970年代から現代に至るまで、マンガという表現形式の発展を支えてきた10人の革新的な作家による原画を展示しています。本展の一貫として、それぞれの作家が築き上げた独自の道筋と作風に光をあて、その創作の魅力と功績をご紹介します。
次にご紹介するのは、不朽の名作『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』の作者、荒木飛呂彦氏です。シャーロック・ホームズからピカソ、ミケランジェロに至るまで、あらゆるものからインスピレーションを得て、ハイファッション、ルネサンス期の彫刻、音楽、そしてマンガを融合させた独自の芸術世界を築き上げました。進化を続けるキャラクターたちと大胆なポージング、超現実的な色彩表現で彩られる『ジョジョ』の世界観は、日本国内のみならず世界的なカルチャー現象となっています。
『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』が連載開始から40周年を迎えるなか、荒木氏は、視覚、感情、哲学という多面的な角度から、マンガという表現の可能性を押し広げ続けています。
