PASADENA, CA — The USC Pacific Asia Museum presents “Night Parade: Yokai Unleashed,” the inaugural program celebrating the upcoming exhibition, Mythical Creatures: The Stories We Carry. The event will take place on January 17, from 6 PM to 8 PM PST, inviting the community to immerse themselves in the spiritual, cultural, and pop culture legacies of yōkai—mysterious creatures from Japanese folklore.
The evening will feature a special conversation with Michael Dylan Foster, Professor of Japanese Folklore at the University of California, Davis, and Virginia Kuhn, Ph.D., Professor of the Practice of Cinematic Arts (Media Arts + Practice) and Associate Director of the Institute for Multimedia Literacy at USC. The discussion, moderated by Meher McArthur, Curator and Scholar of Japanese Art, will explore the cultural and spiritual significance of yōkai in Japan and beyond.
Following the conversation, guests are invited to enjoy a variety of activities, including a costume contest, live music, Japanese-inspired treats, and a drop-in art activity. The event is presented in partnership with USC Trojan Anime Culture, and cosplay is highly encouraged—attendees are welcome to come dressed as their favorite yōkai, anime character, or mythical creature.
Tickets include museum admission and free parking. Admission is free for USC PAM Members and USC Students; members and students are asked to RSVP using the promo code “USCPAM.” To reserve tickets, please RSVP at:
