PHOENIX, AZ — The Arizona Matsuri: Festival of Japan is set to return for its highly anticipated two-day celebration on Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85012. The festivities will kick off with an opening parade at 9:30 AM, followed by a full day of cultural experiences from 10 AM to 5 PM each day.
Now in its 42nd year, Arizona Matsuri has become one of the Valley’s signature spring festivals, drawing thousands to experience the vibrant traditions and contemporary culture of Japan. This year’s theme, “kizuna”—the Japanese word for bonds and connection—honors the 50th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Phoenix and Himeji, Japan, and celebrates decades of cultural exchange.
Attendees can look forward to a dynamic lineup of Japanese exhibits, arts and crafts, bonsai displays, children’s activities, and a bustling marketplace featuring authentic Japanese food, a beer and sake garden, and artisan vendors. The festival will showcase live entertainment across four stages, including taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, traditional dance, live music, and a crowd-favorite cosplay contest.
Organized by the Arizona Matsuri Steering Committee—a coalition of local organizations such as the Arizona Buddhist Temple, Phoenix Himeji Sister City Committee, Japanese American Citizens League, Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix, Japanese Business Association of Arizona, Japanese Culture Club of Arizona, and dedicated community members—the festival’s mission is to introduce and celebrate the arts and culture of Japan in Arizona.
