Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights have a connection that spans 120 years. Following the Great San Francisco Earthquake in 1906, Japanese immigrants migrated to Los Angeles and congregated in Boyle Heights where they bought homes and built families.
Today, landmarks like the Japanese Hospital and El Tepeyac Café are reminders of the bond that unites the two communities.
The Little Tokyo Business Association and artist Robert Vargas present the L.A. Rising Fest 2026 at First Street and Central Avenue in Little Tokyo on Sunday, March 29, 1:00-6:00 pm.
The L.A. Rising Fest 2026 is designated to honor the shared history between Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights and celebrate the 2nd anniversary of Robert Vargas’ Shohei Ohtani mural.
The L.A. Rising Fest 2026 includes food, music and cultural entertainment.
The public are invited to jump in and learn a new ondo choreographed by Bandō Hirohichirō.
