Annual Japanese popular song show to be held in Little Tokyo, Jan 6
Borrowing the format of the most famous Japanese popular television song show in Japan, Los Angeles Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple as known as Nishi Betsuin Temple will present the 42nd Annual “KOHAKU” Song Show on Sunday, Jan. 6 at 1 pm at the temple’s “Kaikan” hall in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles.
More than 30 local singers in the Los Angeles Japanese community will perform both nostalgic and contemporary popular Japanese songs with comical talks interval between music performances.
Singers from KOH (red) team of women and HAKU (white) team of men will appear in alternate shifts.
A trophy bearing the name of renowned Japanese popular song composer late Masao Koga will be presented to the winning team. Mr. Ueki of Koga Masao Music Culture Promotional Foundation will come from Tokyo to observe the KOHHAKU show.
