The Japanese Institute of Sawtelle will hold Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) and Undo-Kai (Physical exercise gathering) on Saturday, March 2, from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at Stoner Park, 1881 Stoner Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90025.
In 1912, 3,000 Somei Yoshino sakura trees were given to Washington, D.C. as a gift from the mayor of Tokyo. The year 2012 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the introduction of these trees to the U.S.
At the Stoner Park, sakura trees were planted some 22 years ago. March is a perfect timing to see cherry blossoms at the park.
As the Annual Undo-Kai of Sawtelle Gakuen (Japanese Institute of Sawtelle), students will friendly compete physical games in the field. Feel free to stay and watch the fun.
Consul General Jun Niimi of Japan will present 100 years old recognitions to four locals Japanese and Japanese Americans.
