The Zi-Pang Trio taiko group from Japan will perform on Saturday, September 25 at the Remo Recreational Music Center in North Hollywood and on Sunday, September 26 at the Grand Annex in San Pedro.

The leader of the group, Hiroyuki Hayashida was a member of the famed taiko group, Kodo for 7 years. Hayashida and Zi-Pang perform a unique technique, combing taiko rhythms which are very jazz influenced on kasugi-style okedo taiko.

These taiko are slung over the shoulder and played on both sides with lightening speed.  Hayashida is an accomplished composer and producer as well, having written music for the latest “Zatoichi” filmed which starred Takeshi Kitano.

Zi-Pang will be joined by the Taiko Center of Los Angeles Ensemble led by Rev. Tom Kurai and koto artist Yukiko Matsuyama.

The Saturday, Sept. 25 concert will begin at 8:00 pm at the Remo Music Recreation Center, 7308 Coldwater Canyon, North Hollywood, CA 91605 and Sunday, Sept.26 concert will begin at 7:30 pm at the Grand Annex, 434 W. Sixth St, San Pedro, CA  90731.

Advance tickets are $15 and $20 at the door.  For more information, call: the Taiko Center of Los Angeles at (626) 307-3839.
