2018 / Los Angeles: Shamisen workshop with Headmaster Honjoh Hidetaro, Sept. 30

Nihon Buyo Kai of California

Shamisen workshops for Beginners and for Intermediate/Advanced students
The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute
Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018

The workshops will be led by Honjoh Hidetaro, who is recognized by Japan’s Cultural Affairs Department as a master artist and composer.

This is a very rare opportunity to learn from a master of the art who will be assisted by his protégés.

The Beginner’s workshop will be from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in the upstairs classroom area.  Instruments for the Beginner’s session will be provided, but seating is limited.  The minimum age for the Beginner session is ten years old.

The Intermediate/Advanced session will be from 4:00 to 5:30 pm and interested participants must bring their own shamisen and bachi, and they must be able to read shamisen notes/music.

The Intermediate/Advanced sessions will offer valuable tips and guidance to experienced players and will be beneficial regardless of shamisen school affiliation.

Registration for either workshop session is required and can be made at the website, nihonbuyokai.org/upcoming-events.  The fee for the Beginner session is $10; the Intermediate/Advanced Session is $25.
