Home-prefecture association LA Tokyo Kai held their annual New Year’s gathering at the Union Church of Los Angeles in Little Tokyo on Sunday, March 3, 2024 for the first time in four years.

Over 30 members and friends attended the event. Jazz performance by Ark Sano and his trio added a lively vibe to the gathering. Ark Sano played on keyboard, Blake White on bass, and Dustin Haner on drums.

The program included Cubano Chant, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Girl From Ipanema, Take Five, Tequila, Tokyo Boogie Woogie, Poinciana, Autumn Leaves, and Billy Boy.

Especially “Tokyo BUGIUGI,” the theme of popular TV series currently airing in Japan, was the premiere performance by Ark Sano.

Mr. Jeff Yamazaki, president of the group said, “We could not meet for years due to pandemic. Our group is open to anyone who has lived, studied, worked or visited Tokyo.”

LA Tokyo Kai was established in 1998 by a group of community-minded Japanese residents in the Los Angeles area.

The objective is to provide opportunities to socialize with people who are from Tokyo area. It hosts annual events for members and guests with entertainment consisting of live Jazz music or Rakugo (Japanese short story telling).
