LOS ANGELES, CA — The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened Studio Ghibli’s PONYO on February 14, 2026 and will be running through January 10, 2027.

Studio Ghibli’s PONYO is a landmark exhibition celebrating the artistry and imagination behind the beloved animated film PONYO (2008). Following the museum’s acclaimed inaugural exhibition on Hayao Miyazaki in 2021, this new showcase invites visitors to immerse themselves in the magical water worlds, hand-painted animation, and themes of transformation, human connection, and joy that define Studio Ghibli’s work.

Studio Ghibli’s PONYO features over 100 original materials, including art boards, posters, a Studio Ghibli animation desk, and hand drawings by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Many of these items, generously donated by Studio Ghibli to the Academy Collection, are displayed in North America for the first time.

Curated by Senior Exhibitions Curator Jessica Niebel and Assistant Curator Emily Rauber Rodriguez, Studio Ghibli’s PONYO promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of traditional hand-drawn animation and the enduring legacy of Studio Ghibli.
