"Current Status of Reconstruction and Issues of the Devastated Areas of Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture"
Address by Mr. Kimiaki Toda, Mayor of Ofunato City
Thursday, July 21, 2016, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles
Mayor Toda will express his personal gratitude to the people of Los Angeles for their enduring support following the March 11, 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and give a power point presentation on the present situation of Ofunato City.
Five challenging years have passed since the catastrophe. Thanks to the great support received from people of Los Angeles and the world, much progress has been made in the areas of construction and relocation of residences and public spaces as well as the rebuilding of the local industries such as fishing and the related fields.
Ofunato City is at a juncture as it moves forward to develop a new community including the main street of Ofunato Station, a hub of the city, and its neighboring areas.
This is a special opportunity for the people of Los Angeles to better prepare ourselves for possible future natural calamities and learn from the lesson of the 3.11.
Mayor Toda will answer your questions following his presentation. Your attendance and participation are appreciated.
